I suspect that children who receive ponies for Christmas are more likely to grow up to be adults who receive luxury sports-utility vehicles topped with oversized novelty bows for Christmas.

Earlier I asked my roommate, “who the hell gets a freaking car for Christmas?!?” And it’s not like the giver is paying cash for the damn thing. My response would be something along the lines of “great, so you used OUR money for the down payment and now I am going to have to pay the freaking thing off. Yeah, thanks for the ‘gift’.”

Yeah, in terms of recurring obligation, a car is an order of magnitude worse than giving someone a cell phone for Christmas — another inexplicable thing that happens in the world of advertising.
