Did I mention that Andrea and I had a kid last week?
In other news, a reader who probably wishes to remain anonymous thinks that “Dub tea” is a lame nickname. Feel free to leave your suggested nicknames or diminutives for little Thomas in the comments; be aware that Andrea is (almost violently) opposed to “Tommy.”

Hey guys!!!
Ing told me the great news and I just wanted to see the cute bugger and drop a line. Congratulations! Hopefully, I will be able to see in person sometime.
I hope you both get some sleep in the coming months :)

Personally, I think Dillyslotz is perfect. That’s just me, though. I’m sure Tim agrees, however.

Greg, that’s a great idea; I’ll have to consider whether or not that’s the best “bad idea from computer science” that I could name him after. (“Register window” isn’t as catchy.) Perhaps we could have an alternate nickname that usually describes a bad idea from the world Middle English literary criticism.

I think “Duckie” would be quite nice for many reasons, some more obvious than others. . .

We used to call a T-named baby I used to know “Tea-bag.”

I think he should inherit his mommy’s nickname…Buster! Or Curly.

Well, I suppose you could call him “Glose” or something, but that seems a little filthy. But that’s the safest thing I could call up from the Canterbury Tales.
Tiffany, I’m sure you did as well, but I know Will and I let out a sharp, quickly-suppressed laugh at “Teabag.”

Indeed.

I think the obvious is “Bucky”, but outside of Madison, some might think you were playing a cruel joke on the child and raising him to believe he’s a hillbilly.
Or, another obvious is “Mr.T” (I pity the fool), or “Little T”, or the rapper version: “L’il T”, or “L’il Tom”
Or in honor of Hannah and Julianne’s recent trips to Ireland and N. Ireland, how about, “Wee T”, or “Wee Tom”. Then, you have the added bonus of a double entendre.

You know, I only learned WHY i shoudl let out a quickly suppressed laugh AFTER that nickname was given. Like andrea, who didn’t know about pork, despite being an Iowan, I didn’t know about teabags.
Because, well, tea is a good thing, and teabags (the non-kind-that-will-prompt-a-quickly-suppressed-laugh) too. It’s too bad it is ruined, you know?

That is very true. Maybe something snappy like Gunpowder Tea or something like that.

Ooof. How about T.J. Lazer? It worked for Robocop . . .

I vote for “Sweet Little Boy” – a perfect fit.

His granddad Tom’s nickname was T-Bone for a little while. I don’t remember why.
