Where do you wind up in Dante’s Inferno?

Here’s a mildly amusing quiz. I’m apparently in Purgatory. There should be some disclaimer: “this is not an adequate substitute for eternal judgment,” or similar.
I wonder: did the medieval superstitions surrounding total sanctification after death develop in parallel with the structures of the Western university system, or was the concept of purgatory — as a process that one is cognizant of, aware of the passage of time during, and suffering through — developed only after a robust system of hierarchical degrees, protocols for academic debates, and tenure were in place? It certainly seems that there must have been some analogy guiding the scholastics to such an innovative doctrine; why not graduate school?
I’m currently listening to La Calunnia E Un Venticello from the album “3 Finnish Basses” by Matti Salminen, Jaakko Ryhanen, Johann Tilli

whoa, one would think that tex would prefer to be “trapped under ice” à la the Metallica song, perhaps claiming additional perfidy in order to attain such a “goal.”
but perhaps one would have to think again….
