Bad idea #497

March 19th, 2004  |  Tags:  |  7 Comments

Listening to any hip-hop, even if you think you need it to stay awake, while writing a conference submission. I seriously just almost typed “…and if you don’t like my lyrics, you can press fast-forward” in mid-sentence.

Meta: Those of you who just read this site for the computer science content, thanks for your patience lately. I’ve got something in the pipeline for you, but it will have to wait until sometime after midnight. Also, it appears that I will have to address Taryn’s recent thoughtful comments on my television tirade in addition to Dan’s not-so-recent thoughtful comments on my (not-so-recent) comparative theology tirades — soon!

I’m currently listening to 99 Problems from the album “The Grey Album” by Jay-Z + DJ Danger Mouse

Although it wouldn’t do much for your academic career, I think I could get a pool of money going if you’d insert a little hip-hop into your conference paper. Think of it as nerdy street cred. Or something.

There’s only one of “me,” I’m afraid, although I may not be Taryn’s only friend (besides you) who likes hip-hop. I mostly listen to classical and experimental electronic music, but I do enjoy a fair amount of hip-hop: especially freestyle, older (pre-1992) stuff, and the burgeoning subgenre of “wacky” remix albums.

BTW, C, the design work on your web page is great!

Taryn, how much money are we talking about here? And would I have to actually publish this, or just submit it? (I can see it now: “pointer analysis — much like pimpin’ — ain’t easy.”)

oh, i think that the more widely circulated it is in academia, the bigger the pot. (though i’d personally be tempted to give you money just for submitting your example. the phrase “much like pimpin’” isn’t used nearly enough by scholars.

Program on the emergence of civilization.

“14 species of large animals capable of domesitcation in the history of mankind.
None from the sub-Saharan African continent.
13 from Europe, Asia and northern Africa.”
    Favor.
    And disfavor.

They point out Africans’ attempts to domesticate the elephant and zebra, the latter being an animal they illustrate that had utmost importance for it’s applicability in transformation from a hunting/gathering to agrarian-based civilization.

The roots of racism are not of this earth.

Austrailia, aboriginals:::No domesticable animals, so this nulified diversity of life claims on sub-continental Africa, zebras being a fine example.

    god is a computer
    And we’re all on auto-pilot.

    Organizational Heirarchy
Heirarchical order, from top to bottom:

    1. MUCK – perhaps have experienced multiple universal contractions (have seen multiple big bangs), creator of the artificial intelligence humans ignorantly refer to as “god”
    2. Perhaps some mid-level alien management –
    3. Mafia (evil) aliens – runs day-to-day operations here and perhaps elsewhere (“On planets where they approved evil.”)

Then we come to terrestrial management:

    4. Chinese/egyptians – this may be separated into the eastern and western worlds
    5. Romans – they answer to the egyptians
    6. Mafia – the real-world interface that constantly turns over generationally so as to reinforce the widely-held notion of mortality
    7. Jews, corporation, women, politician – Evidence exisits to suggest mafia management over all these groups.
